One of the preeminent suburbs of Charlotte, Fort Mill is an ideal place to call home. It’s close enough to the Queen City that all those metropolitan amenities are always convenient, yet it’s far enough away—just over the Carolina border—that families can enjoy peaceful and quiet lives, away from all the hustle and bustle of urban living.

The question is, which part of Fort Mill will you call home? Though it’s not a huge town, there are plenty of different communities to choose from. One general area to explore is the land around Mary Ellen Drive and Pleasant Road. This section of Fort Mill has a number of nice neighborhoods with wonderful homes and active HOAs; plus, it’s convenient to many of Fort Mill’s finest amenities.

  • There is a low vacancy rate right now, and the housing supply is tight—so if you find a home for sale and you really love it, act quickly!

If you’re new to Fort Mill, we will reiterate that this is a suburb of Charlotte, so all your “big city” needs can be easily met with just a short drive up the road. Fort Mill is just a couple of miles from Rock Hill, South Carolina, itself a lovely and rapidly growing city. Fort Mill’s total urban area encompasses about 36,110 people (give or take).

Fort Mill has its own school district, which is well regarded and also serves kids in nearby Tega Cay. It offers easy access to Carowinds, a popular amusement park, and has a lovely downtown area, plenty of parks and playgrounds, and more.

As you look for homes in the Pleasant Drive/Mary Ellen Drive area, be on the lookout for active HOAs—always a good sign that you’re moving into a vibrant community. And if there’s one thing this area has plenty of, it’s vibrant, lovely communities.
