Community Communication: Your HOA Website

One of the many jobs of an association is to cultivate a sense of community, and one of the best ways to do that is to facilitate effective communication which is most often done via a HOA Website. Making it easy for the board to communicate with residents, for residents to communicate with one another, and for the community as a whole to communicate with the outside world is imperative for ensuring a culture in which people feel comfortable living.

Among the first steps any HOA board should take to ensure this kind of communication is the creation of a hoa website. If you don’t have a website for your community, talk with your association management group; Kuester offers extensive hoa website services. If you do have a website, make sure it contains all the features that a good, community-enhancing website ought to have—namely, three levels of communication:

  • First, make sure your hoa website has an area for non-residents. This is the part of the page where you’ll share some basic details about life in the community, and try to generate interest among prospective residents. This is one of the most effective things you can do to attract news folks to your community.
  • Second, make sure there is a general members section of the site. This is where you can share news for community members—news about when the pool is opening, when the next community meeting is, and so forth. It’s a great way to go paperless and communicate without the need for a traditional newsletter.
  • Finally, consider creating a specific members area, which a community member can access via a private, individual login and password; here, the resident can pay dues, manage bills, and so forth, securely and conveniently. This will make things easier on the association and on residents.

These three tiers of communication are all pivotal for ensuring that your hoa website is providing an effective tool for communication, and for the cultivation of an open and accessible place to live.
