4 Simple Ways to Improve your Home’s Curb Appeal

One of the benefits of living in an HOA community is that you know it will be well kept. The HOA contracts with landscapers, contractors, and other service providers to ensure the lawns and buildings are maintained and aesthetically pleasing. While the HOA tends to community amenities, it is up to each homeowner to tend to their own property. Putting in a little time and effort can keep your home and yard looking top notch and add to the beauty of the community as a whole.

Improving your home’s curb appeal doesn’t have to require a total overhaul. There are simple ways that you can enhance appeal and make a noticeable difference:

  1. Power wash: If your home is looking a little worse for the wear due to the weather and environment, a nice power washing can spruce things up. Cleaning the siding, porch, and walkways can really brighten things up and shed built up residue that could lead to damage if left untreated.
  2. Mow and trim: Stay on top of your lawn by mowing regularly and keeping bushes and trees trimmed up. It will give your yard a fresher and more styled appearance. It can also motivate your neighbors to do the same if they notice their grass is creeping up in comparison to yours. If there are brown spots, take time to reseed and restore the lush look of your lawn.
  3. Plant: An easy way to spruce up your yard is to add flowers. Create flowerbeds along walkways and porches or the mailbox. Choose flowers that will withstand the amount of available sunlight. Pick bright colors and full bodied plants for more coverage and pleasing aesthetics. Water plants in the early morning or late evening to conserve water and allow it soak in before the heat of the day.
  4. Paint: Give siding, shutters, porches, railings, or fences a fresh coat of paint to keep them looking newer. You’ll be surprised at what a difference it can make. As you go along, also make sure to make necessary repairs to extend the life of these structures.

Take pride in your home and neighborhood by doing your part to keep things looking nice. Remember to check with your HOA before changing paint colors or adding any outdoor structures to ensure you are in compliance with HOA guidelines.
